             The 1N34A Diode the diode most used in Crystal Radio sets. 1N34A diodes are made of a material called germanium a material used for transistors and diodes as one of the first semiconductors materials used commercially . 1N34A diodes are becoming hard to find I try to keep in stock around 5000 at all times.

            This 1N34A Diode and a ceramic earphone and a tuning coil are all that is needed to make a simple crystal radio.

            Because crystal radios use only the power coming from the antenna a good antenna is required to drive the earphone. If you live in the city close to a transmitter antenna then you should be able to pick up that station with only a short antenna wire.
